Abstract

This thesis was written by Sukma Cahyani in 2025, titled Students’ Perceptions
Toward Digital Media Used by Lecturers in Teaching at UKI Toraja, under the
supervision of Linerda Tulaktondok, M.Pd. and Dr. Rigel Sampelolo, M.Pd.
This study discusses how students perceive the use of digital media in the
teaching process. Although digital media offers various conveniences and
benefits, students also face several challenges that can affect their learning
experience. Therefore, research is needed to understand students' perceptions of
the effectiveness of digital media used by lecturers.
The objective of this research is to explore students’ perceptions of the use
of digital media by lecturers in the learning process. Additionally, this study aims
to determine the extent to which digital media can support the effectiveness of
learning at UKI Toraja.
This study employs a qualitative methodology with a descriptive research
design. The participants in this study were six students from the English
Education Study Program at UKI Toraja. Data were collected through interviews
and analyzed using thematic analysis.
The findings indicate that students generally perceive digital media as a
useful tool for enhancing engagement and comprehension in learning. The use of
videos, animations, and interactive tools by lecturers is considered helpful in
improving students' understanding of the material. However, students also face
several obstacles, such as phone storage limitations, unstable internet connections,
and a lack of experience with certain digital tools. Additionally, the lack of direct
interaction between lecturers and students is a factor that affects their overall
satisfaction with digital-based learning.
This study concludes that optimizing the use of digital media in learning
can provide greater benefits for students. Integrating more visual and interactive
content, improving digital literacy, and enhancing lecturer-student interaction can
create a more effective and inclusive learning environment.
