COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ANXIETY LEVEL AT ENGLISH STUDY PROGRAM AT UKI TORAJA

This study is done because many students do not excited to join speaking
competition especially for students of English study program. This study aims to know
significant differentiation level of speaking anxiety among students in English Study
Program at UKI Toraja.
The researcher used quantitative methodology to gain understanding about the
significant level of speaking anxiety. This study involved 15 students from 1st semester,
8 students from 3rd semester, 15 students from 5th semester and 23 students from 7th
semester of English study program students. In collecting the data, the researcher used
18 items in the questionnaire based on the symptoms from speaking anxiety level. To
analysis the data, the researcher using One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
through Excell.
The result of this study showed that there is significant differentiation level of
speaking anxiety from first to seventh semester. P-value from low level is 5.42E-14
which is smaller than 0.05 and indicate that there is significant differentiation on low
level. Next, on moderate level, p-value from this level is 4.19E-12 which is also lower
than 0.05 which means there is significant differentiation on moderate level of speaking
anxiety. Lastly, p-value from high level of speaking anxiety is 2.62E-14 which means
that there is significant differentiation on high level of speaking anxiety. It can be
conclude that there is significant differentiation level of speaking anxiety level among
students of English Education Study Program at UKI Toraja.
